Are iPods Still En Vogue?

For quite a while now, I’ve wanted an ipod. A couple of things that put me off from buying one is that, well basically you’re paying mostly for brand. I’ve seen plenty of other mp3 players on buy.com that seem to be pretty good for 1/3 of the rice.That’s one of the major sites that sells all kinds of electronics.  Are people still going crazy about them? I don’t whether or not it is worth getting an ipod. I’ve seen other mp3s players that are fairly nice too.
