Thanks to iPhone app, a teenager was able to recover his stolen iPhone from a notorious family of criminals. The teen had set up the ‘Find My iPhone’ feature on the new 3GS phone. This application allows users to track and wipe personal content from their phone in case it gets lost or stolen.
When the device was stolen from his father’s car in Colorado, he was able to use the site, powered by MobileMe, to track down the stolen property and help police catch the criminals.
‘My dad and I had been on a river trip and when our group returned to our cars, all four had windows broken and all the valuables taken from the car,’ said Dustin.
‘We submitted our case to the nearby police and started on our five-hour journey home – but when we got back I remembered that I had set up ‘Find My iPhone’ on the MobileMe site and immediately got on and tracked it.
‘It ended up being at a house close to where it was stolen, so I called up the policeman that had taken our case and told him where it was located.
